The barrell lenth is about 18 1/2 inches. IAC went through a lot of trouble to get the 97 right. I remember reading that they sent an well known 1897 expert to the the Norinco factory in China. If you have the riot version it should be easy to convert it to a trench. All you need is the heat shield/bayonet lug, that's the hard part. The repop has been discontinued for a while.

Fitting heat shield for 1897 trench conversion. Recently picked up a cut down 1897 takedown model in well used shape for a reasonable price. Planning to add a heat shield but unsure of how to go about cutting groves in the barrel for the screws. I've seen a few examples of people cutting in groves with files which does work but looks a hack job.
