The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilator) hose is attached to the intake to burn the fumes vented by the engine. Oil comes along with the fumes. If you have the stock air box, there should be a clear tube under the air box to catch some of the oil. Drain the tube and wipe out the throttle with a dry cloth. Here's "my two cents". 1. Choose synthetic-- it's inherent properties result in a "tougher", more durable/ more capable lubricant (and coolant) when compared to traditional mineral based oil. It's why synthetic oils are universally specified in the aviation industry particularly for jet engines.
I doubt you would have a problem with 75-140. Ford makes a 75-140 synthetic that is the specified lube for the rear diff in my Expedition. I was thinking about putting that in the VTX- it's more of a heavy duty oil- Plus- any synthetic will flow at very low temps- even in Alaska.
