It involves more than just an understanding of concept but an interaction with a thinker. Call them idols. Call them people. Philosophy simply is different than other subjects and that is something I'm rather fond of. If 300 applicants apply for 5 slots at a single school, that's about a 2% chance of getting into a given PhD program -- but OP is applying to 20. Of course, that percentage doesn't factor in applicants who have bad grades, or an underdeveloped sample, or not the best letters.

If you have over a 3.7 GPA overall, an amazing prorposed statement of study, and great letters of recommendation then yeah, it is very plausible to get into Oxford's BPhil.
