I did some primer based testing today and came to two conclusions: 1. standard primers produce softer fouling. 2. at least with 70 grs of KIK 2F, federal magnum primers produce the best groups (by a long shot!). 3. standard large rifle primers produced the worst groups compared to magnum primers.

I love RL7 for all the same reason's Starrbow mentioned, but H4198 is a real good one as well. H322 has a very good following and is very accurate. I really haven't found a bad powder in my 45-70 yet.. Good thing is everything that works in the 45-70, will work excellent with the 444 Marlin you'll eventually have to have! HA! Good luck.
