I don´t see any reason to not bring Vivien along, she can cook and craft while having time to handle most things in the base. She is actually useful in most cases and doesn´t really have any negative impact. Having all the armour/clothing made fast means she can be productive elsewhere.Defence seems a bit hard to figure out in this game.
