Re: mixing Kerdi with non-Schluter drain Timber, I have used the Kerdi drain before in this situation and just used an inside pipe cutter to cut out the existing drain. I also had to cut out some off the subfloor to accept the kerdi drain since it has a large body to it. This will also depend on height of your mud bed or preformed pan.
