So, it should have a Mod. 15-? stamp inside the yoke in front of the cylinder. If it is a CM, it will have either a 2" or 4" barrel with adjustable rear sight and ramped front sight. The M prefix was used exclusively on the .22/32 line of revolvers. These would include the Models 34, 35, 43, 51 and 63 (all of those except the Model 35 were Kit Guns). The M prefix came into use in 1969 and remained the sole sequence for this line of revolvers until the three-alpha numbers replaced them in 1983.

The early Model 60's were numbered in the Chiefs Special Series to 786544. Model 60 Serial number range 475001-480000 is usually a bright finish with case colored hammer and trigger as does the OP's. The OP's gun has the small S&W trademark on the left side. This would indicate an earlier model.
