You guys that are changing every 2,000 miles to 5,000 miles should really consider having that used oil tested just once to see actually how well that oil is and how your engine is doing. Changing it that often is only wasting money as it is still new oil 8)

One guy (who claims to be a mechanic) gave a long list of stuff he has to do to maintain the shaft drive on his Vulcan 750. I have owned several shaft drive bikes, and never had to do more than just change the oil and lube splines at the final drive. I looked at the service manual, and all it shows is change the final drive oil every 24,000 miles.

If you buy a quart and change with every oil change that's 7 - 8 changes if you don't spill any. For me as a 32 year professional mechanic I call it cheap insurance.

Engine knock. outlaw1800 is right about the fuel issue, use regular with these VTX's. As for this "knock", I too have a bit of a chatter going on in my engine. I have 14,400 miles on my bike so far and at 12,000 I switched back (from using Amsoil products) to the Honda recomended OEM engine & final drive oil.My old mechanic used mineral oil for the motor, I thought it used Honda 60 oil. The first number in the case of your car 0W-30 is just an emphirical number and is only true till the engine warms up then it is a 30 weight oil.
