It’s pretty obvious why the feed ramp needs to be a smooth, polished surface. The nose of the bullet must slide over and through this concave surface to enter the chamber. If the surface is too rough or is nicked or burred, the bullet can get stuck. However, it’s less apparent why the bolt face needs to be smooth.Feb 16, 2024 · Failures During Feeding and Extracting. Hmmm, never had that problem, think I'd be checkin the bore if I did. There's a thread around here somewhere with some interesting pics. The feed ramp on my Sec 9 is totally different than all my other Ruger 9mm. It was seeming to pinch the nose of the Geco bullets which were more blunt than my other 115gr FMJ rounds.

The fix was to take an Xacto knife and scrape the top part of this outline. It probably required a MM or less of material removal. You caould also probably slightly file the thumb lever itself, but it would need to be removed. Hopefully Ruger reads these forums - the problem could easily be fixed by grinding a MM off the bottom of the thumb lever.

Security 9 trigger locked up. I’ve got a Security 9 that the trigger locked up in today. For reference I’ve put about 600-625 rounds through it now. While at the range today I thought I had an FTF and went to eject the mag. I wasn’t able to eject the mag, which I thought was odd, but was able to clear the round and let it strip a new round.
The issue is, basically, if I hand cycle the slide and ease it forward, the slide will get stuck about 1/8" out of battery. I then can push the slide forward the rest of the way. Like I said, it doesn't affect live firing, but the P89 I owned in the past wouldn't get stuck out of battery when doing this, so I wonder how normal this is.
