Reddit favorite books.

Started the year with two goals: Switch to paper books and read 20 pages a day. Ended up with something closer to 30 a day and started targeting 30 finished books for this year, which i just hit today. Big old stack of books. Anyway, here's the list. Please do go ahead and share your own thoughts/recommendations in the comments.For me, if I had to choose the first book that comes to mind is The Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy which is one of my all-time favorite books. Actually 4 books (Shadow of the Torturer, Claw of the Conciliator, Sword of the Lictor, and The Citadel of the Autarch), but its the peak of fantasy/sci-fi, IMO. Much more dense and rewarding than most of the standard sc-fi and fantasy authors you regularly see on this sub. A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. Bill Bryson's works are fantastic. He makes rather cumbersome history more accessible just by relating things to everyday life. This is a brilliant book - it points out how complex and amazing science is, and yet how much we don't really know.

"Song For the Unraveling of the World" by Brian Evenson is a collection I adore, as are "Books of Blood" by Barker. H. P. Lovecraft is very good at dread-inducing existential horror, and I recommend you read that. The Book of Air and Shadows and the Forgery of Venus by Michael Gruber. For mysteries P.D. James wrote good, well written mysteries with a serious literary feel. I think Dorothy Sayers Peter Wimsey mysteries are well written.
