Mine has only one wire running to the sensor, meaning that the other leg of the circuit is to ground, through the metal frame of the furnace. That metal is painted, so really the main connection is the screw that holds the sensor. It was slightly corroded. I replaced the flame sensor last year, and had a bit of short cycling again recently.
