A belt can be used as a leash, to muzzle a dog while pulling quills, etc. I also carry a Felco, leuko tape, zip ties, compass, fire starter, ace bandage, blood clotting bandage.1. This year, another buddy and took my lab and his rookie GSP for a 5 day public land hunt in Nnovember. After fuel, meals, motels and license, the trip cost about $750 each. We put limits in the air within gun range everyday. It’s quite satisfying striking out on a public land hunt and putting a few in the vest.

As hunting season has arrived, I find myself amazed that after 40 plus years of hunting and fishing pretty much anything that swims, flies or runs, I still get amped up like a kid on Christmas Eve!!! I still have trouble sleeping the night before a hunting or fishing trip!!I rarely ice fish more than 4-5 hours at a time and that includes drive, walk, and set up times. Wind (above 20) generally sucks. I like to hunt wind once in a while, but it takes mental preparation and tends to take a lot out of you. Yesterday when I was hunting I had a fully alive wild rooster run through an opening in the brush/grass. The dog had gone on the downwind side of the habitat, and I was standing on the other side, so I knew where she was. The rooster ran across about a 20 foot opening into another patch of habitat.The only trouble with ditch hunting is often the best ditches butt right up to someone’s CRP field. It can be awfully tough to keep a good dog solely in the ditch and not having them wander into the private property field. I’m not against walking ditches, but have avoided the ones where the dogs are likely to trespass.Feb 23, 2014. I have had good luck introducing the puppy to the older dogs at a neutral location. We have a Small park a few blocks from the house and do first meeting there.
