Got some 8mm rope to try out the rope mod and it doesnt seem like the rope is thick enough to synch down on itself. I just bought a set of these the other day. I've decided against doing a rope mod for now and sticking with the cam buckle straps. I cut pieces of bicycle inner tube and pulled over the metal buckles. The pressure from the tube prevented the cam from holding so I cut a slits to allow the thumb toggle to fully extend and seat. it now works perfect.
